Experts and young researchers discuss concrete solutions to the challenges of social exclusion
n 29 November 2024, Bocconi University will host the first Social Inclusion Lab Workshop, an event organised by the Centro Dondena laboratory dedicated to social inclusion. The Social Inclusion Lab stands out for its interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, aimed at developing innovative research that addresses concrete challenges related to inequality and social exclusion, with the goal of generating tangible impact at the local level. The focus of the workshop is on crucial issues such as education, employment, health and housing, bringing together experts from different disciplines to promote new perspectives and solutions.
The workshop will offer a rich and dynamic programme, with the presentation of four research projects by members of the Social Inclusion Lab and four other talks by international scholars. Among the participants, Matti Sarvimäki from Aalto University will examine the influence of multicultural environments on the formation of social connections. Selene Ghisolfi from Cattolica and Bocconi Universities will focus on aspirations and role models among middle school students in Milan, exploring how to support them in their future school choices. Sandra McNally from the London School of Economics will explore the key factors for success in technical and vocational education. Tito Boeri from Bocconi and the FRDB will present ‘Obiettivo Lavoro’, a project investigating how to facilitate the entry of technical students into the labour market. Michele Belot from Cornell University will discuss the impact of gender diversity and ideas in the academic context. Alessandra Casarico from Bocconi will examine the role of similarities between senior and junior mentors on career progression and gender diversity in universities. Robert Mahlstedt from the University of Copenhagen will offer an analysis of unemployed people’s perceptions of unemployment benefits. Alexia Delfino from Bocconi will share the results of an experiment aimed at understanding the interest of the Italian unemployed in training and retraining paths.
