An Educational Project to Dismantle Gender Stereotypes and Promote a More Inclusive Society Starting from Primary School
The podcast “Rosa e Azzurro“, created as part of the MUSA Spoke 6, Task 2.4.6 project by the University of Milano-Bicocca, addresses a crucial and highly relevant issue: gender inequality. Aimed at Italian schools, the project seeks to analyze gender differences from an early age and reduce the gap between men and women by focusing on the education of the youngest generation. Coordinated by Professor Gabriella Seveso, the project leader, Rosa e Azzurro is the result of interdisciplinary work that integrates research, education, and communication.
The project was officially presented during the Third General Meeting by Dr. Erika Grammatica, a researcher at the University of Milano-Bicocca. The podcast is based on robust scientific research conducted by Professors Seveso and Menegola, which formed the basis for four episodes. The production was enhanced by the voices of M. Spadavecchia and G. Pezzolla.
This initiative engaged children aged 3 to 11 from Milanese schools through creative activities designed to identify and challenge gender stereotypes. The children participated in drawing exercises, story readings, and discussions to reflect on the freedom of choice and the importance of consent in play. Additionally, the activities highlighted female figures in STEM fields to break down biases surrounding “male” and “female” professions.
