The Spoke 5 project supports change through digital tools and dedicated workshops, focusing on design and innovation to guide companies toward a circular economy.

In a world where sustainable and collaborative consumption is becoming increasingly important, the retail sector has the opportunity to take an active role in the circular economy. A key aspect of this transformation is “servitization,” which refers to offering services related to products. This approach allows for the optimization of available resources, encourages corporate responsibility, and creates new opportunities for profit and competitiveness. This is where the project “Envisioning sustainable retail solutions: from theory to practice through design-driven activities” comes in, developed by Spoke 5 of Musa and carried out by Francesca Bonfini, Chiara Anceschi, Tommaso Eli, and the project coordinators Valeria Iannilli and Alessandra Spagnoli.

To support the retail sector in this transformation process, the project aims to develop innovative models and tools based on design. The goal is to help companies become more sustainable and responsible by enhancing the social, cultural, and material resources of the region. Creating virtuous connections among various local stakeholders is crucial to building a solid network and fostering long-term sustainable growth.

“Companies can use this tool in two ways: one is through a workshop with us, where we work together to identify the most suitable services for their business,” explains Tommaso Eli, a design researcher, information designer, and front-end developer, and one of the project’s developers. “The second option involves the use of a digital product—our website—where the results of our research are made accessible. Companies can input their characteristics, and based on that, a range of tailored services will be proposed for further exploration.”
