From MUSA’s Spoke 5, the sustainable revolution in the world of luxury cosmetics

The project Redefining Luxury Skincare: Innovation Meets Sustainability, developed by one of the teams from MUSA’s Spoke 5, has led to the creation of a cutting-edge cosmetic cream featuring anti-aging properties and a strong commitment to eco-compatibility. After two years of intensive work, the team has presented its first prototype: a fast-absorbing gel serum, marking only the beginning of a revolution in the skincare industry.

Beatrice De Santes, one of the project participants, explains that to create this special cream, “We selected a particular plant that thrives in stressful environmental conditions. This is beneficial because we know that environmental conditions influence the production of specific secondary metabolites, which the plant uses to cope with these critical situations.”

The focus is on the skin aging process. “We assessed the ability of the extracts to inhibit certain degradative enzymes of the extracellular matrix, and our plant proved to be extremely effective, in addition to having enormous antioxidant power. After verifying the safety of the plant extracts, we studied their ability to inhibit key enzymes involved in extracellular matrix remodeling, and they turned out to be highly effective for this purpose,” emphasizes De Santes.

With the gel serum prototype ready, the next step will be to collaborate with companies and luxury brands for the product’s promotion and commercialization. The goal is to bring this innovation to market, redefining the concept of high-end skincare. “The next step is to collaborate with Lombard companies and established brands to launch a product that not only meets anti-aging needs but also sets a new standard for sustainable luxury,” concludes the researcher.
