On June 18 at the Academy FrancoAngeli Bicocca, a new event in the Entrepreneurs’ Café series promoted by the MUSA project: experts, academics, and professionals will share insights on the challenges and opportunities of turning scientific innovation into a business

A new edition of the Entrepreneurs’ Café, the networking and knowledge-sharing format organized as part of the MUSA (Multilayered Urban Sustainability Action) project, will take place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Academy FrancoAngeli Bicocca (Viale dell’Innovazione 11, Milan – Lower square in front of the Teatro degli Arcimboldi). The focus of this meeting will be: “From Idea to Enterprise: Establishing a Spin-off Between Regulations and Opportunities.”

At the heart of the event is the transformation of academic research into business ventures—a fascinating yet complex challenge that involves navigating legal, strategic, and operational decisions from the very beginning. Establishing an academic spin-off offers a real opportunity to turn research into enterprise, but it also requires a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, administrative steps, and strategic planning. What are the key steps to launching a university spin-off? What are the most common challenges and possible solutions? And how can professionals support this process?

Starting from these questions, the Entrepreneurs’ Café will feature a hands-on, interactive dialogue among experts, innovators, and academics. Speakers will include Riccardo Castellanza and Paolo Frattini, professors at the University of Milano-Bicocca and co-founders of the spin-off EG4RISK, along with Dr. Massimiliano Poppi, chartered accountant and partner at Morri Rossetti & Franzosi, who will offer an overview of the legal and fiscal aspects of creating a spin-off.

In line with the spirit of the Entrepreneurs’ Café, the event will also provide space for networking and peer exchange, with a final coffee break to encourage connections among professionals, students, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
