The project that paves the way for new collaborations with high-end brands—an eco-compatible anti-age gel serum that combines biotechnology and sustainability to redefine the concept of luxury in the skincare world—will be presented at Berlin Science Week

A new way of conceiving luxury cosmetics, where scientific innovation and sustainability merge to create a unique product. This is the vision behind Redefining Luxury Skincare: Innovation Meets Sustainability, a project born within Spoke 5 of MUSA and ready to be one of the protagonists of Berlin Science Week, one of the world’s most prestigious events dedicated to the dialogue between science, technology, and society.

After two years of intense research, the team has presented the first prototype of a cutting-edge cosmetic cream: a rapidly absorbed gel serum with marked anti-age properties and completely eco-compatible. A result that marks the beginning of a revolution in the world of high-end skincare, where the concept of luxury is redefined in an ethical and sustainable key.

As Beatrice De Santes, one of the researchers involved in the project, explains, the key to innovation lies in the choice of raw material: “We selected a particular plant that lives in environmentally stressful conditions. This is useful to us because we know that such conditions influence the production of specific secondary metabolites, which the plant uses to cope with critical situations.”

The team’s work focused on analyzing the skin aging process and the role of extracellular matrix degrading enzymes, responsible for the loss of skin elasticity and firmness. “We evaluated the ability of the extracts to inhibit these enzymes, and our plant proved to be extremely effective, as well as possessing a powerful antioxidant effect,” adds De Santes. “After verifying the safety of the extracts, we confirmed their ability to inhibit key enzymes involved in extracellular matrix remodeling.”

The prototype is already ready to start collaborations with Lombard companies and luxury brands to bring the product to market. The goal is ambitious: to redefine the boundaries of well-being and beauty, offering a skincare that combines scientific efficacy, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

“The future step is to collaborate with established companies and brands to launch a product that not only meets anti-age needs but also represents a new standard of sustainable luxury,” concludes the researcher.
