From Spoke 1 of MUSA to the collaboration with Will Media and FROM: November 21st at Combo Milano, an afternoon of dialogues, data, and visions on urban regeneration between science, languages, and participation.

The special The city that regenerates is born to describe how research, the core of the MUSA mission, can contribute to the construction of concrete and virtuous models of urban regeneration, an event by Future4Cities, realized in collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Milano and dedicated to the results and visions of Spoke 1 – Urban Regeneration of MUSA.

The appointment is set for Friday, November 21st, at the spaces of Combo Milano, for an afternoon, from 3 PM to 6 PM, which unites different forms of knowledge and puts them in dialogue with the city: law, ecology, psychology, linguistics, new technologies, and urban policies. Dialogues, data analysis, visions, and reflections compose a program that focuses on the collaboration between universities, institutions, businesses, and the community. Paolo Bovio, Managing Editor and creator of the Future 4 Cities format, will host the event, acting as a connector between the various moments on stage.

The Program

The Changing University in the Changing City
The event starts with a dialogue on the university’s role in urban transformations. The Rector Marina Brambilla will converse with Mario Calabresi, President and Editorial Director of Chora and Will Media.

The Power of Words in Urban Regeneration
Cities also change through the languages we use to describe them. The discussion between Francesco Zaffarano and Paola Catenaccio analyzes how narratives, metaphors, and public discourse shape urban policies and citizen perceptions.

Measuring People’s Experience to Design the City
A focus on how psychology, architecture, and immersive technologies can guide the design of better public spaces. Camilla Ferrario dialogues with Marco Boffi on the power of emotional maps and micro-simulations.

Public and Private: Who Guides Regeneration?
The Future4Cities Common format compares Luca Bertonazzi and Jacopo Palermo on the role of institutional and private actors, considering investments, regulations, and the protection of collective interest. Moderated by Clara Morelli.

The Ecosystems of a Warmer City: Water, Trees, and… Mosquitoes
A journey into city biodiversity with Giulia Bassetto and Francesco Ficetola: from rising temperatures to invasive species, up to innovative monitoring of urban waters.

Città Live | Città Bene Comune (City as a Common Good). Rules of Engagement
Live recording of the Future4Cities podcast dedicated to urban common goods, with Paolo Bovio, Stefano Daelli, and Sara Valaguzza, starting from the results of the Construction Law Lab.

Winged Neighbors: How the Milan Bird Atlas is Changing
Data and maps on city biodiversity are at the center of the dialogue between Leonardo Mazzeo, Diego Rubolini, and Marina Nova, with over 100,000 observations collected through citizen science.

Conclusions: The Future of the City that Regenerates
The day will conclude with the reflections of Monica Di Luca, Pro-rector for Research at the Statale, who will dialogue with Riccardo Haupt, CEO of Chora and Will Media. A moment to summarize a journey that shows how urban regeneration is not an isolated act, but a collective commitment that requires knowledge, alliances, and a shared vision.
