Research, impact, future: the MUSA ecosystem opens its works today

he first day of “MUSA – Paths of Sustainable Innovation” opens this morning at the University of Milano-Bicocca, officially launching two days dedicated to reporting, discussion, and vision on the future of the Milanese innovation ecosystem.

The doors of the Aula Magna welcome a broad community: researchers, businesses, institutions, students, territorial partners, and citizens interested in learning firsthand what MUSA has built over the past three years.

After registration and welcome coffee, the day takes shape with institutional greetings, which capture the choral dimension of a project that unites four universities, the Municipality of Milan, the Lombardy Region, and a growing network of public and private entities. Immediately after, the focus shifts to the presentation of the results from the Spokes, the scientific core of MUSA: a multi-voice account that highlights the quantity of solutions developed in the Living Labs, the prototypes born from collaborations with businesses, and the innovative models tested on the territory.

Today’s lunch is also an opportunity to explore the Poster Session, which showcases over 150 research projects presented in the Book of Abstracts and allows the public to dialogue directly with those working on themes such as digital transition, health, sustainability, social innovation, and deep tech.

In the afternoon, the proceedings continue with three parallel thematic sessions dedicated to One Health and Circularity, Deep Tech and Entrepreneurship, and Social Innovation, led by leading scholars from the four universities. It is a moment for in-depth analysis and discussion on how these trajectories can translate into concrete impact for the city and its communities.

The day will conclude with a reflection on the future of long-lived societies, entrusted to the speech by Nicola Palmarini, Director of NICA – UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing, and with the show “Melody on time,” a journey through astronomy, science, and art.

The start of the event therefore marks the beginning of a journey of reporting but also of relaunch: two days to show what has been built and to imagine together what comes next, within and beyond MUSA.
