On May 20, at the Bovisa La Masa campus of Politecnico di Milano, the new Research Center “Sustainable Management in Fashion & Luxury Industries” will be presented, dedicated to the memory of Professor Alessandro Brun, former head of Spoke 5 of MUSA.
The initiative aims to support the transformation of fashion and luxury supply chains, which are undergoing profound changes. Made in Italy stands at the intersection of cultural heritage, advanced manufacturing, and global networks. It is quality, craftsmanship, and social value, but it also faces new challenges: greater transparency, stronger accountability across the value chain, and the need to innovate.
The Center is designed as a platform to guide this transition. The goal is to foster sustainable and inclusive supply chains, capable of promoting responsible, resilient, and people-centered production and service models.
The project brings together academia, industry leaders, and policymakers, with key priorities:
- to develop world-class interdisciplinary research;
- to translate knowledge into high-impact training and policies;
- to provide practical tools for businesses and institutions;
- to contribute to the global debate on sustainable and innovative supply chains;
- to identify and support organizations driving sustainable transitions.
Alessandro Brun’s legacy
The Center is closely linked to the work and vision of Alessandro Brun, full professor at the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano, who recently passed away. His career left a mark in both teaching and research, particularly in quality management and luxury supply chains.
He directed two Master’s programs in Luxury Management and authored more than 200 scientific publications, including journal articles, books, and book chapters, becoming a leading figure in the field.
Within the MUSA project, he played a strategic role from the beginning, helping define its direction and content. His ability to recognize and enhance innovation had a lasting impact.
His commitment to sustainability also led him to found the “Sustainable Luxury Academy”, promoting a more responsible approach in the sector.
The MUSA community expressed its condolences to his family, the Politecnico di Milano, and his team. His professional and human legacy remains a reference point, continuing to inspire future activities focused on innovation and sustainability.
