Shared strategies for digital well-being: a gathering that brings together institutions, schools, and families to foster mindful technology use

On January 31, 2025, the Second National Meeting of Digital Pacts will take place at the University of Milan-Bicocca, in the Agorà building (U6). The event, titled “The Village Grows – Community Pacts for Digital Education,” is organized by the university’s Department of Sociology under the scientific direction of Professor Marco Gui and is part of the MUSA ecosystem (Spoke 6).

The meeting aims to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among the signatories of the Digital Pacts to promote the digital well-being of younger generations. Through discussions and exchanges, the day seeks to identify new strategies for fostering a conscious use of technology, engaging an increasingly broad network of local and national stakeholders.

The Digital Pacts initiative was born from the collaboration between the “Digital Well-being” Research Center at the University of Milan-Bicocca and three associations dedicated to media education (Mec, Aiart Milano, and Sloworking). The goal is to develop community pacts that promote healthy and conscious use of technologies across Italy, involving schools, families, institutions, and informal educational settings.

The opening remarks will be delivered by Giovanna Iannantuoni, the rector of the University of Milan-Bicocca, who has led the university in coordinating the Digital Pacts network. Valentina Amorese, representing the Cariplo Foundation, which supports the project, will also speak.

The event will be divided into two main sessions:

  • The morning session will be dedicated to the signatories of the Digital Pacts. Participants will discuss key topics, including:
    • External communication of the Pacts
    • Relations with schools, local institutions, and informal educational settings
  • The afternoon session will be open to the public, featuring discussions among representatives of the Digital Pacts network, politicians, and members of civil society. Participants will include:

    • Marianna Madia, Lavinia Mennuni, Giulia Pastorella, Gilda Sportiello, and Devis Dori, proponents of legislation on media and minors
    • Anna Scavuzzo, Deputy Mayor of Milan, a supporter of the city’s Digital Education Pact
    • Daniele Novara, a pedagogist known for his advocacy and petitions on these topics
